It is funny the looks of confusion I get because I learn languages for fun as well as studying them as part of my education. I studied French and German from the age of 12 right up until 16, from there I have continued to practice both languages. Technically I was using German before secondary school as I lived in Germany for 6 years as a child.
At present I currently use French and German and am learning Swedish and Chinese (Mandarin). I am studying Chinese as part of my degree. Most people don't understand why I bother with languages given that most people around the world are able to speak English. However, my feeling is that although this fact is true it is ignorant to assume that English is the superior language. Not only do I enjoy it but there is research to suggest that that people who are bilingual or multilingual are less susceptible to Alzheimer's. Whilst I am not naive enough to assume that learning languages will guarantee that I don't develop this disease, they occupy my mind, which means that I don't get bored as much.
It also means that am able to possibly look at expanding my business in the future without the language barrier being an issue within these four countries as well as others that speak these languages.
