I have a friend who is suffering with serious depression. He seems to be in a constant downward spiral and doesn't seem to know how to get out of it. Having been there myself I am able to relate to his situation and am attempting to help as much as I can without doing it all for him.
If you know someone in a similar situation there are a number of things that you can do. For example you can just listen to them, speak to the GP about your concerns or you can do like I am and contact various agencies related to mental health and get advice on the best help for that particular individual.
Whilst I appreciate that a lot of people have difficulty dealing with someone who has a mental illness partially due to the fact that there is a lack of knowledge. I would strongly urge you not to just ignore it, your friend needs your support and just because you can't see any physical symptoms like you can with something like chickenpox it doesn't mean that it isn't there. Mental illness in some cases can be more debilitating than a physical illness.
